Why is it called "heroic viticulture"?

"Heroic viticulture" refers to the cultivation of grapevines on extremely challenging terrain, where steep slopes prevent the use of heavy machinery and require almost all work to be done by hand.

In the gorges of the Ribeira Sacra, some vineyards are located on slopes with gradients of up to 45 degrees. Working under these conditions requires great physical effort and a great deal of experience; hence the term “heroic.” More than just an agricultural method, it is a way of preserving a tradition adapted to a unique landscape.
