Bodegas Hydria: An Authentic Experience Amid Vineyards and Mountains in the Heart of Murcia

Discovering a Hidden Gem on the Bullas Wine Route

When we travel through Spain at motorhome, the most memorable experiences are often found off the beaten path. In the heart of the Region of Murcia, surrounded by mountains, nature, and century-old vineyards, we find one of those special places that turn a trip into an unforgettable memory: Bodegas Hydria.

Located in the heart of the Sierra de Lavia, near Bullas, this small family-run winery offers much more than just a wine-tasting tour. It’s an opportunity to discover the real Spain, meet the people who work the land, and enjoy a natural setting that surprises those who are only familiar with coastal Murcia. For travelers seeking unique spots away from mass tourism, Hydria is the perfect stop on a tour of southeastern Spain.

A family project born out of a passion for the land

Bodegas Hydria was founded with the goal of restoring old vineyards and showcasing the region's extraordinary winemaking heritage.

What makes this place special is that it’s not a large tourist complex. Here, the experience remains intimate, personal, and authentic. Marina and Bernardo actively participate in the tours and share with visitors the history of the project, the restoration of the vineyards, and the daily work that goes into each harvest.

This direct contact is precisely what many travelers from Northern Europe are looking for when they visit Spain: authentic experiences, real people, and places with soul.

The Sierra de Lavia: Nature, Tranquility, and Stunning Landscapes 🌿

One of Hydria’s greatest attractions is its location.

The winery is surrounded by the mountains of the Sierra de Lavia, a stunning natural setting where the vineyards grow at an altitude of more than 800 meters.
The landscape combines Mediterranean forests, farmland, and rolling hills that invite you to pause, take a walk, and enjoy the silence.
For those traveling via camper or motorhome, this area offers an experience very different from the traditional image of Murcia. Here, small villages, tranquility, and a natural landscape still largely unknown to international tourists prevail.

The feeling you get upon arrival is precisely one of the reasons why so many travelers remember this visit. Hydria isn't a winery located along a main road, nor is it a facility designed for large groups. Its secluded setting is part of its charm and allows visitors to enjoy a much more intimate and authentic experience.

How to Get to Bodegas Hydria 🚐

As with many of the special places we recommend on España Discovery, getting to Hydria is part of the adventure. Google Maps usually offers several alternatives for getting to the winery, but we recommend always selecting the town of Bullas as your first destination and starting the final leg to Hydria from there. This is the easiest route and the one we recommend on our app.
Most of the route runs along paved roads in good condition. The drive is smooth motorhomes —until you reach the last kilometer!

During the last kilometer, you’ll come across a section that requires a little more attention. The road has some uneven spots in the asphalt caused by tree roots that have slightly warped the surface. These bumps are marked, so simply slow down and drive carefully to navigate this section without any trouble.

This kind of practical information allows you to travel with greater peace of mind and fully enjoy authentic places off the beaten path.

An experience that requires advance coordination 📱

Since this is a family-run winery located in the heart of nature, it operates differently from large tourist facilities.
It’s important to know that, especially after 4:00 p.m., it’s common not to find staff on the premises if you haven’t given advance notice of your arrival.
For this reason, Hydria asks that visitors contact them via WhatsApp before arriving. This advance notice is essential to properly coordinate your visit and ensure that someone will be there to greet you upon your arrival.

Far from being a drawback, this way of working actually reflects the project’s warm and familiar nature. Direct communication makes it easier to organize visits and provide much more personalized service.

An ideal stop to discover the most authentic side of Murcia

Many travelers come to Murcia drawn by its beaches and climate, but the region’s interior holds some of the most surprising spots in southeastern Spain.

A visit to Bodegas Hydria can be the perfect starting point for exploring:

* Bullas and its famous Wine Route.
* The hiking trails of the Sierra de Lavia.
* The rural landscapes of northwestern Murcia.
* Small restaurants and local producers that keep the area’s traditions alive.

It is precisely these lesser-known places that make a trip through Spain unique and special.

What to See Near Bodegas Hydria 🌄

One of the advantages of including Hydria in your itinerary is that the experience doesn't end when you leave the winery. The surrounding area offers numerous attractions, allowing you to spend a full day exploring this lesser-known part of the Region of Murcia.

Bullas, considered the wine-growing capital of the region, retains the charm of the traditional villages of the Murcian interior. Its quiet streets, squares, and local shops invite you to take a leisurely stroll and discover the unhurried pace of rural life.

Nature lovers will find the Sierra de Lavia to be the perfect setting for enjoying the scenery. Its mountains, Mediterranean forests, and rural trails offer magnificent views of the vineyards and fields that characterize this region.

Also nearby is the Northwest Greenway, one of the most popular routes for hikers and cyclists. This former railroad line winds through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the inland region of Murcia and is an excellent option for those who want to combine nature, outdoor activities, and local cuisine.

Another highly recommended spot is the Shrine of Our Lady of Hope, located in a spectacular natural setting along the river. Its setting, nestled between rock walls and lush vegetation, makes a visit here one of the most breathtaking in the region.

The combination of nature, heritage, cuisine, and small local producers makes this area perfect for those who enjoy traveling at a leisurely pace and discovering places that still retain their authentic character.
